The introduction to chapters 9 – 12, in the last issue, suggested that the chapters in Zechariah from 9 onwards deal with the establishment of the Kingdom of God, in contrast to the first 8 chapters which were concerned with the second exodus.

If this is the case, then we should expect the events forecast in the later chapters to follow those in the earlier chapters. As far as we in our times are concerned, we would expect a return of Jewry from Babylon, a period of exodus discipline for them in the land of Israel followed by the erection of the temple and the giving of the law, and then by the setting up of the Kingdom.

I further pointed out in the last issue that there are many references to the history of David the King, and I therefore suppose that we should consider this section of the Old Testament for guidance in our understanding of Zechariah.

The table shows a list of some of the references from ch.9 to a very particular part of the history of David, i.e. his early days as King in Zion.
