Also among those who sent greetings to the Roman church was Erastus, “the chamberlain (treasurer) of the city.” This statement naturally raises the question “Of what city?” Erastus is mentioned on two other occasions in addition to the references in the letter to the Romans. Acts 19:22 reads that Timotheus and Erastus were in Asia with the apostle and that he sent them to Macedonia, remaining in Asia for a season, himself. 2 Timothy 4:20 states “Erastus abode at Corinth.” It seems therefore that Erastus had his home at Corinth and that that city was the place of which he was treasurer. Since he sent his greetings to the Roman brethren and sisters, he must have been acquainted with them. These records are in harmony with the view that the letter to the Romans was written from Corinth.
