We are told in the 7th chapter of 2 Samuel, that David the king of Israel wanted to build a house for the Ark of God. As the Ark was where Israel worshipped God, so the house would be for the worship of God. But David was not permitted to build the house, though God was pleased that he wanted to build it. Nathan told David, “The Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house. And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father and he shall be my son.”

We are told more in the 7th chapter of Acts at verse 46, that, “David found favor before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. But Solomon built him an house. Howbeit the most high dwelleth not in temples made with hands.” So we must look for some house and building that God will dwell in. We find it in Ephesians 2, speaking of those “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and and of the household of God. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord. In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”

Jesus Christ is the chief corner stone, of this Temple building that God will have for a habitation. This is the house that Nathan told David, in 2 Samuel 7:11, “The Lord telleth thee that he will make thee a house.” In 2 Samuel 7:19 David said, 0 Lord God ; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come.” Nathan also told David that this seed of his, that was to build this house, would be God’s son and God would be his father. Fulfilling this promise the angel Gabriel told Mary that her son, (Luke 1 :23) “Shall be great and shall be called the son of the Highest ; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever ; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” This same Jesus Christ who is the chief corner stone of the house that is builded for a habitation of God through the spirit, says in John 14:2, that there are many abiding places an his father’s house and that he is going to prepare a place for his disciples. And that he will come again and receive them unto himself. That where he is there they may be also. In Matthew 19:27, Peter ask Christ as they had forsaken all and followed thee, what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them. Verily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. This is when Jesus Christ sits in the throne of his father David and is reigning over the house of Jacob for ever.
