After One Year of planning, the first “Learn to Read The Bible  Effectively” seminar was held in Tobago. It was advertised on a local radio station and in the local weekend newspaper and one of the national dailies.

The week before the seminar, Bro. Dev Ramcharan of Canada, who was visiting Tobago along with his family after the Trinidad Bible School, Bro. John Lebourne, the recording brother of the Mt. Grace Ecclesia, and I were on a one-hour call in a Radio Discussion Programme entitled Mike@Nite, highlighting the seminar.

Shortly after the advertising began, the phone number for registration was busy. It was a first-come, first-serve basis as we could only allocate space for 40 persons.

The dates were August 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29, 2001. On the first night we had 29 visitors and continued with an average of 27 per night. Some nights we had one class for one and a half hours, then refreshments or two sessions of 45 minutes each with a break for refreshments. The audience was made up of Pentecostals, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of Christ, Spiritual Baptist, and Moravians who wanted to know how to study their Bibles.

The conference room where the seminar was held is owned by the Tobago House of Assembly and it houses the Policy Research Department Institute of Tobago. The accommodation was first class. At the end of the seminar, certificates were presented to those who attended more than four sessions.

This method has results in that people who are searching for the truth have an opportunity to find it. The response from those who attended is very encouraging and our hope is to hold another seminar in the near future.

Through the help of Bro. Dev Ramcharan, I was able to get copies of follow-up seminars on Genesis, Life of Christ (Luke’s Gospel) and Acts of the Apostles. These are the subjects requested by persons attending the Seminar.

I would like to thank Sis. Gail-Ann Lebourne for her assistance in applying for the conference room, designing the flyers and also registration forms and Sis. Suzanna Mc Leod for assisting her. Thanks, too, to Bro. John Lebourne for bookkeeping, Bro. Cecil Cowan for transport and Sis. Lily Scotland and her children for providing the refreshments and all others who assisted.
