The Law of belief says: “You don’t believe what you see but you see what you believe.”
Watching magicians at work proved that we should not believe what we see, for, as they say, the hand is quicker than the eye. Magicians use sleight of hand to convince us of the truth of something that is false. Many have been deceived by believing what they saw when what they saw was not real.
On the other hand, we can see what we believe if we have enough faith to really believe it. This is why Paul said, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
If our faith is strong enough, we can, in our mind’s eye, see that which is invisible. This is why Paul tells us we can look at things which are not seen.
How do we acquire this faith to see the unseen? There is evidence. It is not blind faith. We are told, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
So there is substance and there is evidence even though we cannot see it. We acquire this ability to see the invisible by the reading of the word of God, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Knowledge and understanding of God’s word will cause us to develop the ability to see the unseen, to acquire the faith to believe and see things that are invisible to the world. Those of the world think they see, but in reality they are blind and do not know it.
Most people walk around believing what they see, and much of what they see is as phony as the magician’s tricks. Jesus explained to his followers that they were given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God. He went on to say, “But to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.”
In his prayer to his Heavenly Father, Jesus actually thanked God for hiding information from those who only believed what they saw. “At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, 0 Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes” (Matt. 11:25 KW).
Are we skilled in seeing the invisible things of God though the eye of faith? It is a skill and it has to be developed. Jesus said, “But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.”
Let us fill our minds with the word of God so that faith can grow. Let us make sure we are among those blessed by Jesus because we have developed the faith to see what we believe even though it is unseen to the world around us.
