You’ve Been Working for a small, progressive company for a little more than a year. It’s your first job and you are really doing well at it. Your immediate supervisor, however, is apprehensive about his own job security and has shown signs that he is jealous of your success. He has begun to load you with busy work that detracts from your effectiveness and has started taking every available opportunity to criticize you and your work. A few close colleagues in your department know that you are being treated unfairly. They urge you to expose your supervisor; they don’t particularly like him either.

At last the day comes to turn the tables on him. You are all together in an important company meeting. Company officials are present. You are aware your supervisor has not properly carried out several important tasks prior to the meeting. You anticipate he will try to shift the blame to you, and you have more than enough knowledge of the facts to make him look foolish, even jeopardize his career.

Questions

  1. What will you do? What are your options?
  2. How should your conduct be tempered by the fact you are a disciple of Christ and you want your colleagues and supervisor to gain an appreciation of God and the godly principles governing your life?
  3. Do you recognize the parallels to your situation in the life of David? Find the parallels, chapter and verse, in I Samuel 17-24 and add them to the right-hand side of the chart.
