People just don’t attend Bible lectures anymore, so what’s the use of having them? This question is asked over and over again and yet there are very sound reasons for evening lectures. First of all, we are commanded to preach the Truth and we must obey God’s command whether people will hear or not. Noah’s preaching only reached his immediate family but this did not cause him to cease doing the will of God. The blood of Noah’s neighbor, was on their own head because he did what God required of him. But have we ever given much thought to Noah’s

They heard God’s word from Noah and obey ed. This alone made his preaching worthwhile. This is one of the most important reasons for our lectures. In addition to making the Truth available to the outside world, we are all benefiting by hearing and re-hearing God’s truth and our children are learning what we stand for and why. This is why it is so important that all of us should support the public proclamation of the Truth. Too many think that once they have attended the Memorial Sen ice, their duty to meetings is discharged for the week. We belong in the congregation of the believers every time there is a congregation of believers.

Many in isolation would just love to be able to attend a Bible lecture and cannot because there are no true Bible lectures being given anywhere within several hundred miles of them. Those fortunate enough to be near one ought to go to it, even if the speaker does not electrify his audience. Perhaps with a few more there, he may be sufficiently encouraged to do better than was expected. In some ecclesias only the speaker, presider and instrumentalist and their respective families show up on Sunday evening. It is discouraging to work several weeks on a lecture and find just a pitiful handful of brethren and sisters in the audience. Remember that Jesus told us that where two or three are gathered together in his name, there he is in their midst. Undoubtedly he thinks enough of lectures given in his name to come, let’s make sure that we come also.
