The shepherds went at once to Jerusalem and saw the baby Jesus, “And when they had seen him, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.” Luke 2:17.
“And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.” Luke 2:21.
Joseph and Mary brought the babe to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord: “Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him, and it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ, and he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought the child Jesus in, to do for him after the custom of the law then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people: a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.” Luke 2:25-32.
Then there was a widow of great age, Anna a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser. “She came in at that instant and gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him (Jesus) to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.” (Verse 38)
Now why would God be so certain to have these witnesses testify about Jesus? The reason is made clear by reading from the old testament God’s promise to Israel: “The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; according to all that thou desirest of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire anymore, that I die not. And the Lord said unto me, they have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth: and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.” Deut. 18:15-19.
God even had a witness among the Samaritans: “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.” John 4:25.
