When I let the dogs out this morning, [this item was held over from March, ed.] they ran through the door and stepped onto the snow and their legs went every which way. The powdery snow was covering a thick layer of treacherous ice. I’m glad that I didn’t step out there first.

Troy and Aaron both had trouble getting out of the driveway to go to work after all the new snow. I watched from the window and held my breath until I saw them get to the plowed road.

This time of year those of us in the northlands feel winter-weary. Thoughts of spring start to seem like some lovely figment of our imagination. We slog along in our late-winter doldrums as if they will last forever. We only have the experience of years gone by to convince us that spring will truly come. This late in winter it is actually quite near.

Sometimes it feels the same waiting for Christ to come. The kingdom can seem like a beautiful dream, and that our present life is going to go on forever. We don’t have prior experience to lean on, so faith has to be our proof that the kingdom is near. We believe the Bible and our Father promises us over and over again that His kingdom will come. As surely as we believe that spring is around the corner, so can we believe that Christ will come in brilliant.
