Did you notice that David, in I Samuel 30, relied completely on God. He trusted God with all his being. David was faced with a very difficult situation. He was greatly distressed. What did he do? He inquired of the Lord!

Look to God for answers

When decisions in our lives come up, what do we do? Do we pray to God for answers? Do we read our Bibles daily? Do we search our Bibles for the answers? Or do we rely on ourselves or on friends, workmates or family?

When sorrows or the decisions of life weigh us down, we must go to the only source that truly is right, God’s word, the Bible. Only in the Bible can we find the answers. We must completely rely on God. It is so hard to do. Even though we profess to believe in God, more often than not, we trust in ourselves. We respect the wrong people for the wrong reasons and ask advice of people who we know will tell us what we want to hear.

Close friends may not help

Unfortunately, it is often those in our own households who lead us astray. Not that they do anything by the world’s standards that is so bad; it’s that they don’t have a love for God and His word is not read or talked about.

Maybe your family does go to meeting, maybe even Bible class. But something is missing. Does it seem that the joy, thanksgiving, and praise of our magnificent God dims in the consciousness of family and ecclesial members’? Letting the word of God touch our hearts, change the way we behave, even though it goes against our nature, will bring forth fruits of the spirit, and with these come the blessed feelings of peace and joy, even m adversity.

We need results

By knowing God we let His words touch our hearts and change our actions With His word m our hearts, even though flesh wants to please itself, we are motivated by love of God and want to please Him.

We need to remind ourselves of the fruits of the spirit, letting the scriptures speak to our hearts If we are not producing the fruits of the spirit — love, joy, peace, etc — something is wrong In Matthew we read “For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? For whosoever will save his life shall lose it and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it”

When we read these words, what does it mean to us personally? Are we dating someone who knows not God? Are we starting to stay away from meeting? Have we read our Bibles lately’? Do we care more about this life — our needs, our wants — than we care about what God thinks?

What is your cross?

Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” What is your cross? Is it a husband or a wife who cares more about the pleasures of this world and wants you to miss meeting and instead enjoy the things this world has to offer? Do you have poor health? The things of God are eternal, the cross that each one of us bears in this world is for just a moment of time.

Have you forgotten your first love’? Do you remember why you were baptized? Usually as humans we can justify most everything Do we have a negative attitude? Let us build up ourselves by the renewing of our minds.

Do we want it said of us “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matt 15:8-9).

Turn to the only true guide

How do we know we are on the right track’? Our minds are leaky vessels, we must read our Bibles daily Are we trusting m ourselves and not m God? If we are, we need to remember the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked

Are we trusting the wrong people for advice? You’ll know if you read your Bible and understand what it says

We must pray for God to guide us If we turn our backs on God how can God bless us m our lives? It is foolish to think God is with us if we don’t care what He says or do the opposite of what He says in His word once we understand it.

Have you read His word lately? Do you really care what God has to say concerning you’? Start reading your Bible every day You’ll find the answers you need for your life It will amaze you, strengthen you and give you hope, as no other source of m-formation can.

You will find that God knows exactly what you need The answers are hidden, so you must knock and seek in order to find.
