The Chickadees are making hit and run trips to the sunflower feeder They grab a sunflower seed, fly to the nearby cedar tree to eat it, then they do it all over again This time of year, when snow blankets most of the foliage, the chickadees are relying on us to furnish their sunflower seed Sometimes it can be a chore to trudge out into the snow to fill the feeders, but they reward us by becoming quite brave Many people have trained chickadees to come and eat the seeds from their hands We haven’t accomplished that yet, but they will perch on the top of the feeder as we fill it, and we love seeing their jaunty cuteness up close.
We enjoy watching the birds, and feel a responsibility toward them They might manage on their own, but we can make it easier for them to cope with this frozen season Their plight touches us, and it makes us feel good to help them.
With a greater urgency, we should have a feeling of responsibility toward our fellow humans We should be feeding them as well, we should be feeding them our Father’s truths We should be giving them the words that will help them m this cold winter of earth’s sinfulness They are reliant on those of us who have that wondrous seed to be shared Let’s put out the feeders.
