Thoughts on how best to serve God are in our minds daily This is as it should be, since each of us is working out his salvation in fear and trembling Bible campaigns, lectures, work in the Sunday School and exhorting — these are all very important in the work of the Truth In many of these fields, the brother, of necessity, must take the lead, and his sister wife s role is more or less of a secondary nature, at least it seems so to her Her work is to encourage her husband, keep the home a relaxed, comfortable place conducive to study and meditation, and also, of course, to extend hospitality to brothers and Interested friends.
There is a very special way, however, that a sister may serve God Usually we are blessed with one or more children What a wonderful opportunity to teach the Truth, to mould the mind of a young child into a character that will conform to God s way of Truth Perhaps the father is busy in the work of the Truth, or just at his daily work of making a living for the family The mother should always take the time to do the daily readings with her children Not only do the children form a habit which they will never forget, but the mother herself will greatly benefit from reading aloud from the Word of God. Even the very young child, just learning to read, can soon read his verse, and how proud he is! How often the question of a child will bring out things to discuss in this wonderful Book God has given us. Many of us are missing our greatest opportunity of teaching the Truth in our homes. Were not the children of Israel commanded to read the law to their children?
How many of our Sunday School teachers have been grieved by the fact that some of our children whose parents are busy preaching the Truth cannot take the time to teach and explain the Sunday School lesson to their children. How often do our children come to Sunday School and say that they did their readings alone, mom and dad were too busy, or it made them nervous to read with the children.
Another special way a sister can serve God is by ministering to the needs of the sick ones and those in need of encouragement and help. What a comforting thing it is, when we lose a loved one, to have a meal prepared, or, if mother is sick, to have a meal sent in.
These quiet, every-day tasks are ways a sister can serve God, especially if she is able to really feel for those in need, and anticipate ways to be helpful.
Our greatest potential for candidates for the Truth is right in our own homes, so let us strive to teach our children the way God has laid out for us. Are we missing the chance to teach our little ones the Way of Life and thus serve God?
