Teach me 0 God the way of Thy just
statutes
Give me the understanding of
Thy law.
Incline my heart to honor Thy true
percepts,
To grasp the wonders of the
promise sure.
Teach me the depths of all that is
noble,
Penned by the prophets, the
priests, the kings.
Help me to know how tender are
Thy mercies,
The comfort, Thy love, to
mankind brings.
Teach me, 0 God, to bow before
Thy chastening,
For thou so high doth know
how oft we fall.
Man in his pride may look and
feel quite faultless,
Whereas in truth he is feeble
and small.
Teach me, 0 God, that I am
un-important
Thou hast the power to raise whom
Thou doth need.
We come, we go, and others
follow after,
This is the way Thy wisdom
hath decreed.
Teach me, 0 God, to leave a little
gladness,
Where I sojourn, or paths I daily
tread.
Help me to know the other
pilgrims’ sadness,
And in their life the joy of
sunshine shed.
I need Thy help to learn these
sacred lessons,
To understand how holy is the
script.
Hold thou my hand lest I should
be discouraged,
And join the throng who seek for
ease and drift.
