I am needy and poor
As I enter the door,
Where the brethren of Christ always meet.
With a hope for the best
In a meeting expressed,
May I take my accustomed seat.
Then with gladness w e sing
And our tribute we bring
To our heavenly Father above,
Both with heart and with tongue
We the anthem prolong
For His goodness and wonderful love.
Now the scriptures we read
And their precepts we heed
In both old and new testament part,
For there is nothing so good
As God’s word understood,
Like a mariners compass and chart.
Then we rise to our feet.
While in fellowship sweet
A dear brother will lead us in prayer,
With devotion of heart
As the spirit imparts
To our brother the wants that we share.
With our minds deeply stirred
By the message we heard
In a clear exhortation so good,
How to walk with the Lord
In the light of his word,
And to serve in the truth as w e should.
That by infinite grace
We may finish our race
And an entrance abundantly gain
To the Kingdom of God,
When his paths we have trod,
Where as kings and as priests we shall reign.
Lord, thy blessing we crave
On the emblems thou gave,
That Christs death we might never forget,
May the bread and the wine
Unto us be a sign,
That the price of redemption was met.
Jesus died on the cross
Where he suffered for us,
And the shame of a sinner he bore.
But he rose from the dead
As the true living bread,
If we eat, we shall live ever more.
Then we close with a prayer
For protection and care
In the days that before us may lie.
And I rise from m y seat
All the dear ones to greet
And to press every hand passing by.
