He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. Luke 24-27.

What if a manuscript were penned
By many prophets of the Lord,
Revealing how our life would end
If we obeyed the written word.
The mocking of an angry crowd
Despised, rejected of all men. Our
visage marred, no beauty there
A cross instead of diadem.

If we could read how weary nights
Would be spent on a lonely hill,
And watching all the household lights
While we endured the evening chill.
And how that in the final day
The wicked would triumphant be,
For Pilate would grant them their way.
And cursed be one hung on a tree.

Our Lord pursued the Holy writ And
read the words by prophet’s pen,
That He the only one so fit
To die the death for sinful men.
And as He spent the nights in prayer Sought
added strength in time of need.
For He the flesh of sin did share
His Fathers’ love had so decreed.

So may we take God’s word to heart
And meditate upon these things.
Unwearied do our little part
In honour of the King of kings.
And if a pilgrim goes adrift
In search of a much easier way,
Just take his hand, his soul uplift
Remind him of the brighter day.
