From the NASU Regional Unity Representatives To the ecclesias in North America June 10, 2006
Dear Brethren,
For the past year the NASU Steering Committee has been inactive and has essentially ceased to function following publication of the NASU survey results.
Given the results of the NASU survey, the Steering Committee concluded it does not have sufficient support to continue work on continental unity. As the Committee was organized to promote continental unity, it is not well suited to arrange regional or local unity efforts. Therefore the decision has been made to disband the Committee.
With God’s blessing and the work of many dedicated brethren, the NASU unity effort was successful in promoting fruitful discussion and Bible study on unity-related subjects. It brought brethren to an appreciation and understanding of the issues associated with the historical division, fostering an environment of mutual respect, concern and love for one another that resulted in the production of the North American Statement of Understanding (NASU). We believe the NASU document has continuing value as a sound basis for future unity initiatives.
It remains the task of brethren and ecclesias to carry the work forward toward implementation, if the Lord wills. The NASU document is available for any ecclesias to use in a regional or local unity effort.
We wish to thank the many brethren and sisters and ecclesias that participated in the formulation and review of the NASU document, and all those ecclesias that responded to the NASU survey. The prayers and support of many others throughout this effort were important and very much appreciated.
On behalf of the NASU Steering Committee,
Ken Curry, Co-chairman, NASU Steering Committee Ron Waye, Co-chairman, NASU Steering Committee
