Our Sunday School class each week begins with a young man reading a few Bible verses about the lesson or giving a short talk. The following talk was prepared by Bobby Pommer, aged 11, on November 16, 2003.

In Genesis 6:13-14, God told Noah that He was going to destroy the earth with a flood because of all the wickedness on the face of it. So, God told Noah to build an ark to save him and his family.

Because Noah had faith in God he obeyed and was saved from the flood. To Noah’s neighbors it must have seemed silly building a huge ark when there was no rain cloud in sight.

In Hebrews 11:1 it says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” To Noah the flood was real, even though he couldn’t see it yet. His neighbors thought it was just a story. It wasn’t real to them.

In verse 6 it says, “Without faith it is impossible to please him.” So if we don’t have faith, we can’t please God. Faith isn’t just important; it’s a requirement.

Where does faith come from? Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” So faith comes from listening to the word of God. We do that by reading our Bibles.

The Bible tells us that God is going to send Jesus back to the earth to set up His kingdom. We have to have faith that God will do what He says. If we really believe, we will obey God, like Noah did, and preach the Gospel to other people. James tells us in James 2:18 that our works show our faith. We know that Noah had faith because of what he did.

Can people tell you have faith by your actions?
