We Will Miss You Brother Devon and Sister Christine Walker.
More than 10 years ago Brother Devon came to Jamaica’s shores to stay as a missionary. He stood by us when the going was rough and traveled across the island making his presence felt in every nook and cranny of the brotherhood.
He was truly a humble and dedicated servant of the Lord. He worked tirelessly to spread the word of God. We will not forget the fine arrangements he made for our camps, Bible schools, fraternal gatherings, brother’s study groups and so on. These were always inspiring and accommodative. Remember Echo Hill in St. Thomas! Surely, we got a taste of ‘fall’ as it is in a cold country.
He encouraged us to strive for spiritual gains instead of mastering worldly things. We should aim after the crown of life. He pointed out to us the importance of laying aside every weight and sin which doth so easily beset us and run with patience the race that is set before us.
The brethren and sisters in Jamaica will long remember Brother Devon for his thoughtfulness and support in times of need. He cared for and fathered many Christadelphian families in our island. He was always giving and sharing and, when help was not forthcoming, he sought assistance from other sources. He took time out to see that the poor and less fortunate were taken care of. He was there for those who needed a friend, for those who needed a listening ear.
He cheerfully took the crippled ones in his arms or on his shoulders and carried them from one place to the other while at camps and other gatherings. He showed the qualities of what the Truth teaches us about love and care and that we should show them no matter how great the challenges.
Brother Devon has returned to England, but here in Jamaica he will always be remembered because his work has touched us all.
Be good brother, continue to work as you have done for us and the Lord our God will be pleased with you.
We love you and we miss you.
God bless you and your darling wife, Sister Christine.
