Before Coming To Poltava where the Bible School was to be held, I was very glad to meet British brothers Trevor Maher, Stephen Palmer, and Geoffrey Smith and Sisters Dorothy Gibson, Tina Berks, Ruth Palmer and Sarah Watts at the international airport. We then took a bus and came safely to Poltava, having only a four hour trip.
We were blessed with our second Ukrainian Bible School June 23-28, 2002, thanks to God. This week was really fascinating: a week of precious fellowship, useful studies and priceless baptisms. There were 54 adults and 15 children present. There were three baptisms: RAISA MARCHENKO, OLGA ZAYTSE VA and YELENA BAKAI were baptized into the saving name of Jesus Christ.
Brothers Stephen and Trevor began their series of talks. Bro. Stephen of Cardiff, UK, spoke on Joseph’s life as a type of Christ and Bro. Trevor, Stirling, UK, on Paul’s letters to Timothy and how we should behave in the house of God. Bro. Igor and I were assisting as translators/interpreters. We had a total of five sessions over 6 hours per day, including a session on daily readings.
The week was full of evening activities and talks. Bro. Trevor spoke about the work of CBM in the Caribbean. The children put on a play based on Bible stories. There was a question night and on the day before departure we sat outside at decorated tables and all enjoyed a humorous performance put on by Ukrainian brothers and sisters who live in Poltava.
On a sunny and warm Wednesday afternoon, we were privileged to witness the baptisms. Olga, Yelena and Raisa were baptized in the name of our Lord in the nearest river. It was a very glorious occasion and became even more so when the British brothers and sisters sang Anthems 37 & 38 (old hymn book).
On Friday, we had a bus tour of Poltava’s sightseeing locations led by Sis. Ludmilla. After this, we had to say goodbye to each other and thank once again our Lord Jesus Christ for giving us such a brilliant opportunity as being united in the only Truth we share.
God willing, the third Ukrainian Bible School will be this July 6-11, at the same destination, Poltava region, eastern part of Ukraine.
