Pakistan Is An Islamic Country with a population of 140 million. It came into being, August 14, 1947, from the British Empire. The predominant religion is Islam. Christians of different denominations make up 1.5 million of the total population of Pakistan. Christadelphians are very new here.
Christadelphians were introduced in Pakistan when a brother and sister made their visit in Karachi, Pakistan, June 11, 2002. There were people from all over Pakistan to meet them. When I came back to my town, I shared the teachings with many brothers and sisters not only in my town and neighboring villages, but in other big towns, too. The response was very much positive.
When brothers and sister came in Pakistan in October, 2002, more than 45 people from different areas were baptized. That was done with the prayers and help of brothers and sisters from other parts of the world.
Brother ‘A’ is working in Toba Tek Singh while brother `S’ is working in Faisalabad and sister `S’ is leading in Sahiwal. We have prayer meetings in our areas and we pray together and whatever information being sent by brothers and sisters we share with each other.
In the meantime, we try to prepare more people for baptism. Last December we had a very good program in our areas to introduce the teachings of the Christadelphians. Sister ‘S’ has a very good program with children of Sunday school age in a town. Bible quiz, poster contest, speeches and a Christmas drama were presented by the children. On this occasion, the local Christadelphians handed out food items, clothes and books to the orphans and deserving children. These things were given to only limited children because we did not have the funds.
Sister `S’ has been running a Sunday school very regularly since June, 2002. She has students of all ages. They are more than 80. Most of the
children are not into regular school as they go to work with their parents.
They work in very dangerous places. Their parents cannot send them to school because they are poor and they cannot pay the fees, books, expenses, etc. So it is a good opportunity for the children to come on Sunday and pray and learn about the word of God. They do not have their own place so they have got the permission to use a Salvation Army church in their area.
We want to start three Sunday schools in F and two in T. We are praying and make plans how we can best use the Sunday school supplies sent by Save the Children Fund, Canada. God willing, we want to produce better and true Christians in Pakistan. We need the prayers of brothers and sisters from all over the world to make this dream come true. We face a lot of difficulties but praise God we have the Sunday school supplies safely.
The children of Pakistan have a lot of talent but we need to give them time and teach them about the word of God. By bringing these children in the Sunday schools we can involve these children in productive activities. Otherwise Pakistani culture is that children play in the streets among heaps of rubbish or with fire in the roads. They never know that they can hurt themselves and become sick — they never think of that. For them there is no meaning of life, only wandering here and there. So in this situation Sunday school is a great blessing for them.
So these are a few activities going on in our area on behalf of the Christadelphians.
Regarding the country in general we can say it is an Islamic country that is very strongly against United States of America and unfortunately they take Christians as partners of USA. This has led to killings in Christian Institutes and churches. We are struggling to convince the people that we are not of the USA. The recent general elections showed a trend of the Muslim clerics gaining ground. They are becoming strong. That is the trend in the country. We hope and pray and labor for peace in the world.
