The Echo Lake, New Jersey Ecclesia sponsored a fund-raising event at its ecclesial hall on February 2. The breakfast was organized to spearhead a drive for contributions to the “Christadelphian Save the Children Fund” which will provide kits and Bible lessons in native languages to children in Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, South America, India, Africa, the Philippines and other areas of the world. Bro. Reuben Washington writes that the event came off in “grand style” with breakfast being prepared by children from the Echo Lake, Union, New Jersey, and Floral Park, New York ecclesias.
Breakfast was served before the Sunday morning meeting in the basement of the hall with all ages getting involved. The hall was filled with brethren, sisters and friends — some of whom had never visited an ecclesia before. The children were especially excited and anxious to help put on this activity. Some of them set their clocks ahead so they could get up early so as not to miss working at the event. They were at the entrance to the basement collecting donations from the brethren and presenting items for purchase for the “Save the Children” effort.
Other ecclesias and CYC groups may wish to follow this very good example and stage similar events. By assisting in the “Christadelphian Save the Children Fund” effort, the children participating in the event learn that they are part of a worldwide community. And we are all made keenly aware of the effort of preaching the gospel in every part of the world — an effort in which we can all take part.
The “Christadelphian Save the Children Fund” provides Bible learning materials, personal items and scholarships to mission areas. See www.christadelphianchildren.com for details.
