During the past six years brethren have been working to develop a common understanding of the doctrine of Atonement, related issues and Resurrection Responsibility which we pray will provide the framework for unity between the Amended and Unattended communities in the United States and Canada.

Representatives from approximately 40 ecclesias in Illinois, Indiana, Ontario, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia have participated in discussion of the doctrines that have been associated with the separation that now exists between our two communities. A document reflecting a common expression of understanding on these issues, complete with a statement regarding fellowship, and the comparative Statements of Faith has been prepared. This document is known as the North American Statement of Understanding [NASU). Discussions focused on the following four topics:

  1. Adamic Condemnation
  2. The Lord’s Involvement in His Own Sacrifice
  3. In Adam/In Christ
  4. Resurrection Responsibility

The brethren involved in guiding this process have jointly decided that it is now time to share the result of this work with the rest of the Christadelphian community in North America. Information packages containing copies of the NASU document and other details have been mailed to the recording brother (or secretary) of each Amended and Unattended ecclesia in North America.

It is our fervent prayer that our Heavenly Father will continue to bless this effort. We remember the words of Paul in Philippians, “Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” May it be His will that unity of our one body may be obtained in these last days.
