Children are like baby snakes. Why? Sometimes they are just as venomous as adults. The baby cobra is capable of being just as deadly as its parents. The cobra, with its deadly venom, can kill an elephant in a few hours. As soon as a baby cobra is born, it is ready to hunt its prey.

Children even at a young age, are capable of saying ungodly things, hurting other’s feelings and acting sinfully. God looks at these things as a venomous snake bite. James says, “But no man can came the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8 nn).

So what do people and snakes have in common? We all have venom!

Poisonous fish

Many fish, including the lion fish, porkeypine fish, surgeon fish and the John Dory fish all have deadly spines to protect themselves from predators.

We need to have weapons and be on guard from our predator – the world.

The lion fish lies in the shallow ocean water spreading out his fins that look like fans. Venomous spines are ready to protect, hidden away in his fins!

The porkeypine fish has spines on it, too! In Japan, the puffer fish is known as a delicacy but several people have died from the death puffer.

The surgeon fish keeps a blade made of bone stored on a scale on either side of his tail that can be drawn and used as a weapon!

The John Dory fish is equipped with thick spines on his belly and sides.

We all need to have spines to keep the world away from us but not to hurt others with them. Spines don’t have to be venomous to be effective against its enemy. So we need in Ephesians 6:113 (nn): “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground and fight the good fight.”
