On April 9, 1996, Bro. Malcolm & Sis. Sheila Edwards arrived in Antigua from Australia via the UK. They were met at the airport by Sis. Claudette White, Sis. Daphne Solomon and Bro. R. Solomon of New York and Sis. Loraine Mitchell of Guyana. During the evening we invited almost all of our contacts to an introductory session where we did the daily readings and had a general discussion.
The following day we interviewed Juliana Bowen for baptism. Juliana demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the things concerning the kingdom and the name of our Lord Jesus. On April 14, 1996, Juliana Joseph Bowen became the first contact to be baptized on the island of Antigua. We commend Sis. Juliana to the care of our Heavenly Father and pray her walk to the kingdom will be sure and her fellowship with the brethren will be sweet.
Bro. & Sis. Edwards are pensioners who will be paying their own living expenses, while the CBM will be responsible for the cost of preaching activities. It is hoped that some of the Edwards’ living costs will be borne by the brethren committed to the preaching efforts on Antigua. They plan to stay for one year (subject to visa extension by the Antiguan Immigration) at which time Bro. Burt, also of Australia, hopes to move from preaching activities in Guyana to assume the work in Antigua.
If there is any retired couple who would be willing and able to help with the preaching work in Antigua either now or in future years, please contact myself or Bro. Malcolm Edwards, c/o Christadelphian Bible Mission, P.O. Box 2486, St. John’s, Antigua, WI.
The accommodations are superb and the work is challenging.
Hall progress
The foundation is finished, including the plumbing and electrical work which goes in the foundation. God willing, the next phase is to commence shortly.
Short term visits
Bro. Phil Basten of UK plans to be in Antigua during May and Bro. Joe Badlu of New York during June. Any interested in short-term preaching work on the island should contact Bro. & Sis. Edwards as they do have an extra room in their condominium.
May our Heavenly Father continue to bless our efforts and provide loving and willing hands to the task at hand.
