On September 29, 1995, a historic event took place in Guatemala. Juan Palacios Gonzales was baptized before about 30 witnesses some 80 km from Guatemala City. The people attending included brethren from El Salvador.
Juan is the father of a family of five children and husband of Maria. Maria has full intentions of being baptized, particularly after witnessing the baptism of her husband. He has been in contact with the Truth for six years and has developed a formidable scriptural knowledge. In fact, his confession of faith was one of the best I have heard.
The place where Juan was baptized was in the middle of countryside and surrounded by trees. Juan’s request was that he be baptized near his home, “Los Aposentos.” This turned out to be an advantage because there were friends who witnessed the event as well as our contacts from the city.
We are currently working with five contacts in classes preparing for baptism. All of these contacts are actively looking to join the ecclesia here. All of them have had experience in evangelical churches and have found our approach to Bible study and the baptism a totally different world to that which they have known. So they are actively looking for something other than what they had elsewhere.
We pray for our Heavenly Father’s blessing on those in this country who are seeking the light of the word. We also commend our new brother to the brotherhood worldwide.
