“Thou shalt arise and have mercy on Zion: for the time to favor her, yea, the set time, is come . . .
When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory . . . This shall be written for the generation to come.” Ps. 102:13, 16, 18
When the world sees Yahweh build up Zion, Jesus will come. We have seen so much prophecy fulfilled in the last 70 years—since the British drove the Turks out of Palestine (We all know it was God who did it, but let’s humor the historians). Brother Thomas wrote in 1848 (Elpis Israel) that prior to the manifestation there would be a partial restoration of the Jews, based purely on political motivations, under the protection of the British power. We are all familiar with how his words were initially scorned & ultimately vindicated. Brother Thomas pointed to the fact that the initial regathering of the Jews would be a herald to the manifestation of our Lord. This is a fact brought out several times in scripture. In the verse quoted above the Hebrew word for To come is acharon. This Hebrew word is predominantly translated last in scripture. Acharon is also translated hinder most, rearward, utmost, and uttermost. The message in Psalm 102 is not that the regathering of the Jews would happen in some generation down the road . . . the message is that the regathering of the Jews would take place in the last generation. More properly translated, we would read: This shall be written for the last generation.
Jesus told Peter, Andrew, James and John (and us) the same thing in his prophecies given from the Mount of Olives. In Luke 21 we read the parable of the fig tree. Just as the blossoming of the fig tree is a sign that summer is near so also the re-establishment of the nation of Israel is a sign that the kingdom of God is nigh. Jesus said that this generation shall not pass away till all be fulfilled.” We are the generation that has witnessed the dead Jewish nation come out of the grave (Behold, 0 my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring unto you into the land of Israel. Ezekiel 37:12) We have witnessed the fig tree (Israel) come out of the death of winter into the life & blossoming of spring. There are additional references to reinforce the fact that We are the last Generation.
