The fact that such an article needs to be written shows we live in days like unto the days of Lot. The fact is, pornography may be weakening the brotherhood.
What is pornography? The official U.S. definition is that which is sexually offensive to the majority of people in a given area. This is not God’s definition. What passes for normal to the majority of people in a given area is an offense to God in these Sodom like times.
Pornography is found in many forms. Many magazines cater to it. Speech can be pornographic. Books, even respectable books, are pornographic. An example of the latter is the historical novels in The Bastard series. They have many chapters you would not like to read to your daughter. And of course, there are the movies. Some very well acted, tasteful movies are unacceptable because they are explicit in sex.
Some may wonder why this article needs to be written. Pornography guarantees a lukewarmness to the things of God.
There are several reasons why it is wrong.
The first reason is it arouses forbidden lust. “But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matt. 5:28)
The second reason pornography should be avoided is it often distorts sex, causing frustration.
Where should you draw the line on pornography? The answer is to ask, “What would Jesus do?” Would Jesus go to the movies you go to? Would Jesus say what you say when you get mad? Would he read your novel? Would he look at those pictures? Would he watch that TV show? Would Jesus listen to your radio station?
The lukewarm official definition of pornography should not be accepted. Pornography is widespread and has many facts. It could weaken the brotherhood.
