One day recently I was watching the news on TV at my parents’ house. On the local news they mentioned that 10% of the houses in my neighborhood have been robbed in the past six months. I knew there were a lot of breakins near home, but I did not know how many.

I was horrified! I began to make preparations — my jewelry went in a safe -other valuables went in a locked trunk. Windows and doors were checked.

Thursday I went to a health clinic after dark. When I was finished, I walked back to my car. I heard some people running towards me but assumed they were joggers. As they passed, there was a tug at my purse. Then it was gone! When it became apparent what was happening, I saw my purse several yards ahead of me on the ground with the handle broken off a few feet away. The thief and I were surrounding the purse. I made the first move and retrieved it.

Then I remembered how Christ said his coming would be like a thief. I had temporarily forgotten that the clinic I went to had a reputation for purse snatching; I was caught up in other worries. Many brethren have uged us to prepare for Christ’s return. This has been happening as long as any of us can remember. Now the message lulls us to sleep like a lullaby. But he will indeed come, and when we least expect it.
