Christadelphians begin their public service with a reading selected from the Holy Scriptures Thus, in many cases, our interested visitors receive their first general impression of us from the reading
Our responsibility then is to make that first impression a favorable one by having the reading brother well prepared Yet how often have we sat through a reading when the reader didn’t take time to prepare for his assignment
To improve this portion of our service, a few suggestions may be helpful
- Select the reading well ahead of time so that the reader has time to prepare Some ecclesias publish the chapter to be read, along with the reading and speaking assignments, many weeks ahead
- As a minimum, reading brethren should have the opportunity to read the chapters through at least twice—once for meaning and emphasis, the second time for pronunciation and diction
The Holy Scriptures are the oracles of God—Divine words given to men Let us give as much care to reading them as we would in offering our words in prayer to God
